A comedian has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a designated driver inside a moving vehicle while intoxicated, police said Monday.
The Seoul Seocho Police Station booked the man without detention on suspicion of assaulting a driver under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes. He was arrested at the scene at around 1 a.m. Sunday after police received a report.
The suspect, identified only by his surname Kim, is a comedian who debuted through broadcaster KBS’ open recruitment program.
Kim allegedly hired the driver after drinking at a bar in Apgujeong, southern Seoul, on Saturday night. During the ride home, he allegedly grabbed the driver by the neck and shook him while the vehicle was moving.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
